Meet

the Founder

Susan Hyatt is a former couch potato turned runner, weight lifter, and Master certified life coach. 

At age 52 (in May!), she’s stronger than she’s ever been physically and mentally—and continues to set new PRs (personal records) at the gym.

After learning about the science of weight-lifting and how it improves bone density, builds muscle and hormone regulation for midlife women, she wanted to share this knowledge with others. This inspired her to create Own the Iron. 

You’ve seen Susan in O: the Oprah Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Parade, and top-ranked podcasts like Call Her Daddy. She’s the best-selling author of Bare, a book that has inspired thousands of women to treat their bodies with appreciation, awe, and respect.

As a coach, Susan is known for her feminist, empowering, anti-diet approach. It’s about expanding your power, not shrinking your body. 

Her specialty is helping you make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine. To build habits that stick stronger than super-glue, work with Susan. 

What kind of supplies or gear do I need?

QUESTIONS:

  • Internet access to watch videos and participate online.

  • Access to light, medium, and heavy weights. (Depending on your current fitness level, “light” could mean 3 pounds or 30 pounds or something in between.)

There are tons of fitness programs out there. What makes this different?

The main difference is that Own the Iron isn’t just a collection of workout videos. It’s a mindset and accountability coaching program with a well designed weight lifting plan.

I know I should move my body consistently and I know all the positive benefits of exercise. But I still don’t do it. Will this help me overcome my mental blocks?

Yes, yes, yes, BIG YES. This is a huge part of Own the Iron. This program is all about increasing your mental fitness, not just physical. You’ll love the Mindset Meetings led by our founder, Master Certified Life Coach Susan Hyatt. 

Do I have to be at a certain fitness level before I join? Will this be too challenging for me, or not challenging enough?

Nope. We welcome all levels (this includes “I have never exercised in my life”) and provide options for everyone.

Is this a good program for women in midlife / perimenopause / menopause? 

YES. Weight lifting is beneficial for women of all ages, particularly midlife and beyond. 

During midlife, your body begins to lose muscle mass—around 1% per year—and weight lifting helps you reverse this, maintain muscle, and increase bone density too. If you want to travel freely, get down on the ground and play with your grandkids when you’re 80 or 90 without hurting yourself, start lifting weights now.

Will the workouts be 100% focused on weight lifting or will I get other kinds of workouts, too, like cardio, stretching, etc?

Susan Hyatt is a cardio junkie LOL. There will absolutely be encouragement to stretch, get your steps in, and balance your strength training with cardio.

How much is this?

The introductory Founders Rate is a special $200 off savings. It’s $797 for the entire year, if you register by March 15, 2025.

You enjoy 12 months of workout planning, coaching, accountability and community once you sign up. Enrollment opens and closes each quarter. Live classes with Susan Hyatt are the first Thursday of each month at 12 noon CT.
